I Know That Trivia for venues

I Know That Trivia: Venue Licence Terms of Service

Last updated: October 16, 2026

These terms are an agreement between HiRes Solutions ("we", "us") of 319 Delia Street, Orillia, Ontario, and the business that signs up for a venue licence ("you", "the venue"). By creating a venue account, or by ticking "I agree" at sign-up, you accept these terms. If you're signing up on behalf of a company, you confirm that you're allowed to bind it to these terms.

1. What you get

1.1. A licence to run I Know That Trivia's venue mode ("the Service") at one physical location: your own page (for example iknowthattrivia.com/your-venue), a screen for your TV, play for your customers on their phones, an admin page, and the promotions feature.

1.2. The licence covers one location. Each additional location needs its own licence. You may not resell, sublicense or share the Service, or show it at a location other than the one you signed up for.

1.3. You need your own TV or screen, a device with a web browser to drive it, and an internet connection. We don't supply hardware.

1.4. The Service is in English only. For that reason, venue licences aren't currently available for locations in Quebec.

2. Your account

2.1. Give us accurate details, keep them up to date, and keep your password private. You're responsible for everything done through your account.

2.2. Your venue address (the part after iknowthattrivia.com/) is chosen at sign-up. We may refuse or change an address that's offensive, misleading, or uses someone else's trademark or business name. Otherwise it can only be changed by asking us.

2.3. You must be at least the age of majority in your province or state and acting for a business.

2.4. Managers. You can invite people (up to 5 per location) to run a location from their own logins. They can do everything on its admin page except billing, inviting people and renaming the location. You're responsible for what they do on the Service, and you can remove them at any time.

3. Free trial

3.1. Your first venue gets a 30-day free trial of the full Service. We ask for a payment card at sign-up; it isn't charged during the trial.

3.2. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically and your card is charged for the plan you chose. We'll email you a reminder before the trial ends.

3.3. One free trial per account. A location you add to an account that has, or had, another venue is charged from the day you add it. A venue whose subscription ended doesn't get a new trial when you restart it.

4. Prices, billing and taxes

4.1. Prices are in Canadian dollars:

If you're outside Canada, your card issuer may convert the amount and charge its own fees.

4.2. Taxes. Prices don't include tax. We add any GST, HST, PST or other sales tax that applies to your location, as shown on your invoice.

4.3. Automatic renewal. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and we charge the card on file, until you cancel. For annual plans, we'll email you a reminder between 15 and 45 days before each renewal, with the price, the renewal date and how to cancel. You can cancel at any time from the Billing link on your admin page (see section 5).

4.4. Payments are processed by Stripe. We don't see or store your full card number. You can update your card, see invoices and cancel at any time from the Billing link on your admin page.

4.5. Failed payments. If a payment fails, we'll retry it and let you know. If it still hasn't been paid 14 days after it was due, we may pause your venue until it is.

4.6. Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and the change applies from your next renewal after the notice period.

4.7. Switching plans. You can switch between the monthly and annual plans from the Billing link on your admin page. A switch takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for; there's no refund or credit for the rest of that period.

5. Cancelling and refunds

5.1. You can cancel at any time from the Billing link on your admin page. Your venue keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, and isn't charged again.

5.2. Monthly plans: no refunds for part months.

5.3. Annual plans: if you cancel within 14 days of an annual charge, we'll refund that charge in full. After 14 days, no refunds for the rest of the year.

5.4. If the Service is unavailable for a long stretch because of a fault on our side, contact us and we'll consider a credit or refund.

5.5. After your subscription ends, your venue page stops running trivia. We keep your account, settings and promotions for 6 months in case you come back, then delete them. We keep your venue's name and town, and counts of how trivia was used there (games, players, hours), for our records. Your login, contact details and promotions are deleted.

6. Your promotions

6.1. You can upload images and text ("Promotions") to show on your venue's screen, including advertising for other businesses that you arrange yourself.

6.2. You're responsible for your Promotions, including any you sell to others. You confirm that you own them or have permission to use them, and that they comply with the law, including:

6.3. Promotions must not be obscene, hateful, harassing, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent, or misleading, or promote anything illegal.

6.4. You give us permission to store, resize and display your Promotions in order to run the Service. We don't use them for anything else.

6.5. We may remove any Promotion that we believe breaks these terms, and we'll tell you when we do. We don't review Promotions before they're shown.

6.6. Any arrangement you make with advertisers is between you and them. We're not part of it and don't share in it.

7. Prizes and contests

If you offer prizes for trivia games, that's your contest, not ours. You're responsible for its rules and for following the laws that apply to contests and promotions where you are.

8. Players and your screen

8.1. Your customers play anonymously, choosing a display name. You can remove players and ban names from your admin page. Please do so if a name is offensive.

8.2. Players can only join with the code shown on your screen, which changes every game.

8.3. Don't share your private TV-screen link. If it leaks, reset it from your admin page.

8.4. The questions are general knowledge and intended to be suitable for a general audience. If you think a question is wrong or unsuitable, tell us and we'll review it.

9. Acceptable use

You must not:

10. Our content

The Service, including the questions, design, software, names and logos, belongs to HiRes Solutions. Apart from the licence in section 1, these terms don't give you any rights in it.

11. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect. In short: for your account we keep your business details, contact email and a securely stored password, and use one essential cookie to keep you logged in. Payment details are held by Stripe. Players' names and answers are kept only for a few hours after the night ends, except that the display names and scores on your venue's yearly top 30 are kept until it resets on January 1 (or sooner, if you change the difficulty setting). We don't use advertising trackers.

12. Availability and changes to the Service

12.1. We aim to keep the Service running smoothly, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free, or that every question will be correct.

12.2. We may improve or change the Service from time to time (for example timings, layouts or features). If a change significantly reduces what you're paying for, we'll tell you in advance and you may cancel and get a pro-rated refund of any prepaid annual fee.

12.3. We may need to carry out maintenance; where we can, we'll do it outside typical opening hours.

13. Liability

13.1. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost business, or losses from the Service being unavailable on a particular night.

13.2. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything arising from these terms or the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

13.3. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.

14. Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses if someone makes a claim against us because of your Promotions, your contests or prizes, or your breach of these terms.

15. Suspension and ending the agreement

15.1. We may suspend or close your venue account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, don't pay, or use the Service in a way that puts other users or the Service at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

15.2. If we end the Service altogether, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and refund any prepaid fees for the time after it ends.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll email you about significant changes at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel before they take effect.

17. General

17.1. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction.

17.2. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.

17.3. These terms, with the Privacy Policy and your chosen plan, are the whole agreement between us about the Service.

17.4. We'll send notices to the email address on your account; you can reach us at support@iknowthattrivia.com.
